PVICC is distinct from other industry organizations in that it is made up of individuals rather than companies. The individuals who belong to this organization are not identified by their company affiliation. Rather, individuals are encouraged to bring their various expertise to the table so that the codes and standards process can benefit from a wide range of experiences.
All participants have the opportunity to bring their perspectives to this group in a spirit of collaboration so that the PV industry will continue to thrive long into the future. Different perspectives and opinions are encouraged so that all aspects and concerns can be effectively vetted as difficult issues are deliberated.
The origin of the PVICC is founded by those involved in the discussion groups within the PV Industry Forum and the Solar America Board for Codes and Standards (SolarABCs) over the past several decades. The value of the face-to-face and email interactions of individuals within these codes and standards forums is obvious to all who have participated. PVICC essentially has created an organization to more officially assemble those who have been part of these former ad hoc groups.
PVICC has official representation on the National Electrical Code (NEC) on Code Making Panel (CMP) 4. CMP4 oversees all electrical codes that impact electrical renewable energy resources including PV. Those who participate in the PVICC have an official voice in the NEC with voting rights on public inputs and comments made by PVICC to the NEC. Discussion groups in the PVICC will also include comments and proposals to key building codes, fire codes, and standards that directly impact the PV industry. Individuals within the PVICC will represent positions developed by the PVICC in the appropriate codes and standards forums.
